Burned.Paper. Stuff.

Ok,

Well this morning was interesting as all the time. Last night I caught some of my hair in the zipper of my sweater. I had to rip it out. Then this morning, I decided to curl my hair… Ok well I am sitting there and it is making an odd smell but oh well. Then I curled some of my hair around my face, and IT was smoking I pulled the iron back and it burned out a chunk of my hair like 1 inch. Then when I was brushing my teeth I walked out the door and Katie was stating there with the newspaper and I was on the front cover in color.

Then we went to the workshop. Then while I was there Anne tells me when she worked in PUNO there were converter problems so I thought that was what it was.

The workshop went well I hope I can keep up with ladies with knitting the Baby sweater.

Then after that we went to Mitchell with Randi and Miguel

Miguel is trying to bribe me with yarn but I am not having it.

Ok, Then I learned that there are two types llamas. They have information on all of the camelids.

The walk around Mitchell was interesting we saw some older type of dying

And some older types of mordant’s.

The weaving was also good.

So the beat the goes on. Hopefully some third thing doesn’t happen in the newt week to my hair but well see.

MY sock is going good but I forgot to turn the stitches I know… I know.

Yes mom you can have my first born esp. if you decided to raise it.

ECk

Well,

Ok was interesting. Hmm maybe that is my life phrase.

We continued on with the workshop. I think Randi had gotten altitude sickness which lead to me finding her Coca tea.

Then the press came for a media thing. After wards while they were interviewing Randi, The IPAC president, I think a city council guy and Miguel. Some how they saw I was knitting and shoved a knit hat on my head and started taking pictures it was quite dumb founding esp. when the translator Annae had to translate back and forth.

When I got home Katie and jay were here and they just left now. I also spent an hour trying to up load some photos for Miguel. Something weird was going on with Firefox…….

More to follow. Super grumpy. Pictures in the morning maybe.

First day of the workshop

Well today was interesting I tired to get more sleep but my ipod wasn’t charged and I have become unaccustomed to falling asleep with out classical music.

This post is form the 14th.

The morning started out good, with Randi, Miguel and myself all learning words in Spanish. I was fun and most of the ladies once they knew what we were doing knew what we were talking about. Teaching symbols was essential as symbols are universal. ( this workshop was put on by Misti International).

Also covered were the importance of swatch. Swatch and gauge are important in making of garments.

I felt bad as Randi wanted to show the women what she was talking about and all I had with me was my socks on size 1 US.

Some of the words: ok I copied this down as Miguel wrote it so if it wrong I m sure someone will let me know:

Knit-punto dereches

Purl- punto reves

YO-lazada

At we then went through Crochet stitches as well and this was interesting.

Randi then showed up some really simple charts. As I never follow charts this was a bit hard for me. I thought the even rows were the back so when we had to write a mock chart……

I know you guys are thinking how long have you been knitting. But I knit from my handspun and rather simple patterns as when you have to dye the wool, spin it then it come to knitting it and you try to get out as easily as possible. We continued on with different kinds of patterns. Then we had a brief lunch that was something like a hamburger but on a different type of bun.

I MISS KATIE. Who I hope is enjoying being with Jay at the beach and not freezing her butt off.

But today she missed it Senorita Julia made Giant fired stuff yuquitas ( stuffed with cheese) and of course fried.

This post was form the 14th.

WE then went to Calicmpo where I worked on a swatch for a sweater. Once we got home I went with Miguel’s soon to be sister in law, who helped me to find an eyebrow pencil. I need to either have the foresight that I will wax off my eye brow so I should carry a pencil or I shouldn’t not wax it off. I also go a mascara pencil, and lip pencil and two Ice cream ( I got hungry). I guarantee my mom that all of these things are important to my well being while in Peru. Walking around with half an eye brow is affecting my confidence level. I also think I am getting fat ( I know all of you have been asking how I haven’ been), too much beer, cake and delicious food. So I think I m going to swim I only brought a bikini and not a racing suit but well see.

Did we say I can move here?

This post was from the 13th.

OK yesterday we picked up the designer from the airport. Today we picked up JAY ( Kaites soon to be husband). Well they were very happy to see each other and I can’t wait to go to their wedding.

We then went part I think seven in all to a great restaurant by the founders home. We had a great lunch Jay and I had the Americano ( very small piece of traditional Peruvian food) Katie had tasty tasty Fried chicken

This was in the country where we saw cows, a cute mastiff, a cat, ducks, sheep’s, and well big big bulls.

After Lunch we went and had a tasty treat and I am grateful to Miguel for. I think he only tells me about local sweets every few days as he fears I will go into sugar coma. This was fried yeasted dough ( think similar to a funnel cake but not quite) covered in Sugar cane syrup. TASTY. In lima they make them from pumpkin. Bunuelos? Something like this I’ll find out. But I had four. There are ladies there who each make them just a tad different do families have their favorite ladies.

Then we went and drove into the square for Jay to see.

Then tonight they left me and went to stay at the Aunts house. I a, happy they get to have a mini holiday and have left me for the beach ( smiles and waves) and maybe I ll see pictures when they get back.

Tonight off to bed tomorrow is the workshop with Randi I look forward from learning from her she is filled with great knowledge.

Oh you know it is a bird!

On Thursday we went to INCA tops. This was really really cool because we learned about 7 grades of alpaca that can be found in the fleece. We weren’t allowed to take pictures. But at the end we bough discount yarn. Katie paid like $45 US for hers and me like $15.

Mine which is some silk Alpaca, and Alpaca

On Fridays we went to Work and made the bags for the workshop. This was a lot of fun. We then went shopping for the photos shoot. I got to have a great Curro stuffed with duche de leche. We also went out for a few Cervas. We saw a great parade. Some pictures are lacking until we upload Kaites camera.

Earthquake. Coffee. Protest. Riots?

Sorry this blog is really from the 8th

I know we already informed our family but to all our friends.

This morning we were jolted out of bed at 4Am by an earthquake. Now I waited in bed for a few minutes but then I decided I should wake Katie up who not being from CA, I don' t think she knew for a few what was going on. It was a pretty long earthquake, enough time to contemplate getting out of bed, then getting out of bed then to make sure Katie knew what was going on ( she was asleep for half of it) then for Katie to find her shoes, me my glasses, tell Katie to get away from the window, look at the swinging chandler, look in the hall way at the sister running around then finally stand in the door frame. So all in in all it was a 5.8. ( click here for article)

We settled back into bed then woke up to go to a meeting for a photo shoot. It was interesting to learn the ins an outs of this part of the Business.

WE then had a tasty lunch of stuffed avocado ( chicken, peas, mayo, cilantro).

Then we went to work. While we were there we worked on stuff for the workshop. There were these sheep going up the hill when we were in the office.

We then went to meet an interpreter for the workshop. She was super nice and had learned while English in exchange n Virginia .I had a café con Leche and these tasty cookie thing called Alfajor.

After that we went to multiple touring agencies. While Miguel, and Katie haggled with them, I worked on my sock. ( I wish I had the travel agent hold my sock).

After that it was late like 8:30. So we came home and talked about Politics and the world. Miguel is a super life and Professional mentor. He also appraised us on the political situation tomorrow, that there would be protest, and riot police out. That we are a little unsure if it will be bad or nothing.( click here for news article).

This is a picture of a pickup truck that ahd animal hides in it the other day.

We also went shopping last night with Miguel. He showed us a new super market that was good. WE got real good Belgium Cheese, good ham, Coconut cookie, Coca energy cookies, Pear juice ( that is all mine), Katie got some chips.
