The beat goes on....

OK
we are late and this is my second time posting this here is yesterdays Breakfast, lunch and dinner

There is this very tasty bread that was ahve in the morning with ham and cheese or butter and honey, we also ahve eggs or oatmeal the oatmeal is spicy.
The sauce covering this is Ocopa. Made from cheese and nuts covering boiled potatoes it was good.
This was chicken and rice but with a cilantro puree in it it was also very good.

Ok then we had fun at work and went out to shopping.
On the way to the bank a discussion happened about my lip, which they think is bad and that i need TO go to a doctor since, I have like 10 allergys some of which I only know on paper and on is antibiotics I am not going and was firm about this. Unless it does get infected then I am screwed.

This was the pigeon I saw while having this chat:

I love pigeons I don't care if you all think they are rats with WINGS!

Then we went shopping!
I got stuff such as alpaca hats, earrings and an Alpaca pendant ( to commemorate our trip)

Katie got stuff I think she got her self a sweater and pendant I don't want to say more then that becasue I think some of them are gifts.

For Dinner we went to a place named after a local god (Ekkekko?). I got two pieces of cake (torta) and beer.

Kaite had this great sandwich:

Here are some of the purples I made up:

Lessons in life and yarn.....

Sorry I haven't posted in a bit. We started having coffee at work. Not good for digestive I am going to leave it like that.

Deep fried yucca

We are also making up new yarn colors with names like Bigfoot snot, egret eyes some of kaites are : Cleavland brown, HoHoHo Green giant.

We each amuse ourselves

Mom these are the green I was trying to name last night when I was talking to you

This is what it looks like on our way to work, thought I would show so you guys wouldn't think we were surrounded by beatious Alpacas and stuff.

One is a pharmacy,

Off to breakfast and a another day at the factory

FOOTBALL! BEER! and bad internet...

We had offended the internet gods this weekend.
My Email to my mom this morning went something like
" So some how internet down.... email you later
I need to shower.... Much drinking envolved."

So On Saturday morning we lounged around, and then went to a soccer game. Before game we went to a nice hotel and a had a tasty meal of pork, giant corn pan fried that became bready, and onions and potatoes this was very good.

OK, football in other countries is intense we watched a game of 36-48 year old men, and it was really intense.

Afterwards they pass around a glass and a big bottle of beer ( about 30 people, I know I know), you say salute to the person on your whatever the direction the bottle is going and drink the glass, but should you be caught with two bottles in your hand ( like Katie was) this means you are going to be married, if you have a bubble in the bottle you will have money ( Katie did too), but if the bottle runs out you have to drink the first part of the new bottle ( this happened to me about three times).

We then came home an knit a lot and it was fun

We were abruptly awoken on Sunday morning around 10Am, we then went on a little jaunt around the country side, to see the white Christ.

had yet another lunch,. It was so tasty……. IT was at some famous Spanish guys house, and there were alpaca ( It was Katies first) and llamas.

These big pots were used to ferment Chicha mora

Katie had ceviche,

I had an Americano which is like a little of everything, which included a spicy fava bean stuff, tasty mashed potatoes, cooked lamb, cookied foot of cow, rice and a fired carrot cake thing.

Katie kept feeding thig prego cat

We also had fired Yucaitas which are very tasty as well of course with Arequipa beer, as always we are becoming good drinkers of this beer.

We then stopped off at the market , for groceries and I had to go to the pharmacist to get something for the raw skin around my nose, of course this was a translation Spanglish fest, of the pharmacist asking Myan (Alejandros fiancĂ©) questions, who would then ask Alejandro, then me, and when he asked infection I said no and was worried he gave me antibiotics. Thank goodness he didn’t and it was all good.

We came home for a breather and then went to the movies and me and kaite were able to sit together but it was packed and I spent most of the time curled up next to Katie. All this time the DAMN internet wouldn’t work.

Tapeworms, food, Pisco Sours........

OK,

First off if you read this before Sat evening check back I have more pictures but Kaite is sleeping and so I can’t get them off her camera till she wakes up

Two Spanglish misunderstandings: tapeworm, peanut butter

Great phrases we learned: how do you say, What would you like?

We went to work, Where we mixed up dyes. We had a misunderstanding when using altavista, and the young man, translated something that was suppose to be half, and came out tape worm, when we back translated we all started laughing.

We then had lunch out because the cooks daughter is having a baby. Both Katie and I had fried chicken ( not U.S. Style) it was delicious, we also had , chica morada, and soda ( I can’t find what this is online), but is like a fizzy fruit juice.

We the had ice cream which straight translate sounded like frosted cheese (queso del helado) .

Here is a picture of Katie eating our Ice Cream.

We then went back to work where we had to continue to use altavista translation.

When we got home, we had someone prepare us a real Pisco Sour, they are tasty, but unfortunately for me there is real lemon juice in them and I am paying for that today.

We then went out to see downtown Arequipa, where we got more chocolates from the famous Iberia ( yes there were Chocolate Alpacas), looked at alpacas stores, looked at the wonderful Cathedral which is really beautiful.

We were also warned about our cameras, and they said people would walk up and just take them, so would should wear them diagonally, I said we looked like tourist and Katie said blonde hair equals tourist around here.

We then went and had hot spiced mulled wine, with oranges ( in case any of you don’t know I am allergic to citrus, but usually try to gauge the risk). A really great wood toved cooked pizza with a white sauce and red pepper sauce that are good when
mixed together.

We really are having lots of fun with food and stuff and of course dyeing and the culture of the people is wonderful too. More to follow on this post check back later today.

Rocoto Relleno,Coca Tea, Laundry, Mixing dyes.

Well we made more color maps and finished that up by lunch. For lunch we had Rocoto Relleno.

When we got back from lunch we got mix dyes. I think the young man who interprets for us was a bit frustrated but. We are ok now.I also was wearing a long sleeve white shirt, which some how I got blue and yellow spots on the back of it.

There are going to be a lot of pictures of Katie cause I look like crap right now and am sick. And of course she is so pretty so we don’t mind.

The cooks daughter is having a baby so we gorged our selves on bread and butter for dinner. I also have been having to drink some coca tea for my terrible cold. Which annoys me because I haven’t been sick in a year.

We also had a great surprise when we got home…. Today was laundry day, and not only was it all hand wash hung in the sun, but it was all ironed. We were in love and decided it made our clothes nicer then they were to begin with.

I keep missing talking to some of you and hope to fix that this weekend. Tonight we are having a chef come to make us pisco sours.

This weekend we are trying to find the ONE place in Peru that sells vicuna ( I haven’t told Katie this yet). We are also going on a 2 or so hour of the city and having either a Peruvian meal made for us or taught to us we aren’t sure on this, also with pisco sour so I hope we like it.

Work. First trip to the market.

Pictures will be posted thursday morning photobucket is being a wanker, so these are flickr style.

Today was interesting. We didn’t have internet and I accidentally wok up Katie too early. She thought I said 7:30 instead of 6:30 and she so wasn’t happy.

We had breakfast and went to work where we continued on the 31 color maps of duplicate lace. And we treid to think up words for tedious in Spanish. On the way home for lunch the cab battery died so we had to wait for another cab to come.

When we got home we had the most delicious meal. Of spinach/ pumpkin soup and the second was a rich chicken potatoes dish

.

We then went back to Calicampo and where I have a cold I was irritable then my ipod died not helping me. Katie went to sue the bathroom and had an adventure because apparently she had to turn some knob on the back of the toilet to flush it and the manager was baffled at how to explain this to her or the fact that she didn’t know how to do it.

When we got home at the end of the work day we had hot chocolate and then went out shopping. The Supermaket was very interesting colorful and an adventure. We had a ten minute conversation in Spanish with the two ladies one who speak only Spanish and the other Spanish and English about what soap to wash our clothes with.

The colors of the packages and fruit and food was very interesting. It was so funny and Katie and I kept looking at each other. We got coffee, pisco, beer, two kindos of coco, three kinds of laundry soap., oatmeal, blue corn chips, crackers, cookies, chips, every kind of fruit under the sun, ( Papya, Caraambola, Maracuya, Chirimoya, mebrillo, pepino melons), oatmeal. Katie says my quote of the night was when I was suprised that Snickers in a bag were like 18,50 soles and a nice bottle of pisco was 23.

After this we went upstairs and got Pisco chocolates, and a chocolate bar. We then went to a Pastiera and got delicious cake, mine had some tasty tropical cake and cake had a strawberry one.

So it was along day.And I am still sick. Can't wait to ahve coffee tomorrow and to listen to NPR
